A
Global Citizens' Weapons Inspection Team visited Lakenheath Air Base in
Suffolk, England, in early May concerning the presence of 47 free-fall
nuclear bombs believed to be stored there. According to the Campaign for
the Accountability of American Bases (8 Park Row, Otley, West Yorks. LS21
1HQ, UK), "the American Base Commander refused access... The team
handed in a formal Notice of Non-Compliance which stated that a continual
refusal of their demands would lead to further unannounced inspection visits
and this would be reported to the U.N. and the International Court of Justice...
The base was blockaded by the team for about an hour and there were no
arrests."
