EXPLORE THE NONVIOLENCE WEB

"They will hammer their swords into plowshares,
their spears into sickles,
Nation will not lift sword against nation,
there will be no more training for war."
Isaiah 2:4

"Weapons at best are tools of bad omen,
loathed and avoided by those of the Way."
Tao Te Ching

"Let The Good Times Roll"
(Classic Rock song)

In the spirit of nonviolence on the 53rd anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we come to a Minuteman III missile silo, located in Colorado and operated by F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming. By symbolically disarming and converting this site to a positive and life-sustaining place, we give witness to United States' violations of the rights of this and future generations. These violations include:

- Preparation for war, acts and threats of war to achieve military and economic dominance over other nations. - Continued development and reliance on genocidal weapons of indiscriminate mass destruction.

- Gross neglect of social and environmental needs by commitment to a gluttonous military that consumes 1/2 of the federal budget.

- Blocking of our highest human abilities to create and nurture.

Consequently, we affirm our solidarity with disadvantaged people who are further impoverished by the existence of this weapon and its associated military system. As ringing hammers and blood-annointed art forms come into contact with this nuclear threat, we strive for "A day without the Pentagon". On this day, the business of war will be history and nuclear terror will be a nightmare of the past.
